Ohio house

Ohio house

I finished both of the commissions yesterday and am prepping them to go out tomorrow. It was interesting to work on two different styles at the same time – a watercolor and a pastel.  Still, each one seemed to fit the medium used.  The Ohio house has the deeper, woodsy tones of the pastels and the Florida house has sun washed watercolors.

I decided to show the pastel first since I started it earlier. Because there was so much greenery and the house siding was pale, I had to work hard to get the proper depth of color. Thank heavens there are day lilies in the fore ground along with a small reddish shrub.  It really needed the pop of color.  I did use a little bit of purple in the shadows, too.

As a Victorian, the house was interesting in and of itself.  Besides the normal bric-a-brac, the large front porch area has been screened in.  I suppose this makes the porches more usable on buggy summer nights.  You can barely see some outdoor furniture behind the screening.

Next up will be the Florida watercolor.

Wow, I love this! That palest palest yellow on the house is just perfect.

Thanks, Cindy. I’m glad I talked to the customer because the siding was grayish in the photo. I don’t know if it was the photo or they have repainted it, but I would have made it different without asking.

It looks so lovely, I wish I could live there. Oh, wit, I did have a Victorian for 23 years. Beautiful — but endless work!

I think it is a lakeside vacation home. The porches must be lovely to spend time on in the summer. It seems no matter where you live, there is maintenance so it’s better to like it than not. LOL

Wow! I wouldn’t mind sitting on the front porch, here, and reading a book or just listening to the birds. This is beautiful work, Ruth.

I am so excited to present that Ohio Victorian lake house work of art to my boss of 20 years as a retirement gift. It is currently being framed with a double matte, the inner being that purplish cranberry revealing only about1/8″ covered by an ivory matte and framed with a gray washed driftwood frame. LOVE IT! Thanks Ruth for doing such a great job!
